Wyckoff-Gerling collection on World War I
Scope and Content
The Wyckoff-Gerling collection on World War I spans from 1914 to 1919 and contains postcards, a letter, a map, a Catholic catechism book, and a scrapbook of photographs and typed pages. The collection was presumably put together by persons of the names Wyckoff and Gerling.
The postcards are from the United States, Bitburg, Chaumont, Dijon, France, Germany, Is-sur-Tille, Jonchery, La Turbie, Menton, Monaco, Monte Carlo, Nice, Villiers-le-sec, and a few untitled places. All of the postcards that were mailed are addressed to the Krivusti family in The Plains, Ohio. The rest of the postcards are blank or have notations regarding the image. The letter is to the United States soldiers, from the British welcoming them into their country, written by George R.J. dated in 1918. The map is a relief panorama of the Rhine. The scrapbook has the partial title "Experiences of Company 303" and consists of photographs and typed pages. there are three loose pages that may have come from the scrapbook containing songs sung by American soldiers. The Catholic catechism is inscribed with the name "Miss E_ra Marie Hill" of Parkersburg, West Virginia.
