Scope and Content
The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), Local 88 records span from 1943 to 1973 and document the activities of this telephone workers union. The records include correspondence and regular meeting minutes. The correspondence includes assessments made against members for violations of bylaws and other regulations, and jurisdictional disputes, especially between Local 683 in Columbus, Ohio and Local 88 in Chillicothe, Ohio. The collection also contains restricted materials that are closed. These materials are all Executive and Trial Boards meeting minutes.

History of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 88
The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), Local 88 based in Chillicothe, Ohio, was chartered in 1902 as Local 248. In 1916, it was recharted as Local 88, a telephone or telecommunications worker unit. As of 1979, the IBEW restructured the unions, and the Chillicothe IBEW became part of the Local 578 in District 4.

Acquisition Information
The Ohio University Archives received the collection as a donation from William E. Oney, business manager of Local 88, in May 1978. It was acquired as part of the Labor History Project.
