Scope and Content
Contained in this collection are correspondences with the national girl scout group, leaders' meetings minutes, scrapbooks, newspaper clippings, deeds and plans for building a local girl scout camp (Rotan) and the building of the lodge in the camp. Brochures for the camp and other regional, national, and international camps. Statistics from the 1980's regarding usage and upkeep costs of Camp Rotan, leading to the discontinuation of the camp as a Girl Scout property and the responsibility of the camp going to the Athens Foundation. A history of Camp Rotan written by Troop 1073.

History of the Girl Scouts of Athens, Ohio
The Girl Scouts of the United States of America, founded in 1912 by Juliette Gordon Lowe, started a chapter in Athens, Ohio in 1927. Leaders and troops were formed and a Camp (Rotan) and later a lodge in the camp were built for the Girl Scouts of Athens, Ohio.

Abstract
The Athens Girl Scouts Collection documents the history of the Girl Scouts in Athens County, Ohio from 1927 to 1998. The collection includes correspondence with the national girl scouts, leaders' meeting minutes, scrapbooks, newspaper clippings, and documents pertaining to Camp Rotan.

This collection remains in its original arrangement.
Acquisition Information
The Ohio University Archives received the collection from Lois Whealey in 1983. Whealey inherited this collection and added her chronicles as it passed through the hands of many Girl Scout Leaders who served the girls of Athens, Ohio and nearby areas.
Existence and Location of Copies
Ohio University will entertain requests to photocopy reasonable amounts of material from the collection for the convenience of individual researchers.
