History of Hocking Conservancy District
The Hocking Conservancy District (HCD) is a political subdivision and a public corporation of the State of Ohio that includes major parts of both Hocking County and Athens County. The corporation was established in December 1963 under the Ohio Conservancy District Act, Section 6101.01.84 of the Ohio Revised Code (O.R.C.). The corporation works for the prevention of floods and flooding from the Hocking River and other factors in southeastern Ohio, and has other objectives relating to water management. Yearly copies of the HCD's annual reports by law must be submitted to the Hocking Conservancy Court consisting of the judges of the Court of Common Pleas for Athens and Hocking Counties.
