Scope and Content
The Department of Social Medicine (DSM) records spans from 1967 to 2009 and documents Marjorie A. Nelson's tenure as a clinician and faculty member in the DSM. Records include faculty committee minutes such as the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine (OU-COM) Executive Committee, the Faculty Senate, and the Osteopathic Medical Center (OMC) Manager's Committee; curriculum plans; research and papers; studies; grant proposals; reports on the development of clinical services; workshop and retreat materials; and policies and guidelines for OU-COM, OMC and other services.

History of The Department of Social Medicine
The Department of Social Medicine (DSM) in the College of Osteopathic Medicine (COM) at Ohio University is an interdisciplinary department comprised of social scientists, humanities scholars, and physicians. Members of the department study the dynamic interplay of people, culture, and the environment, and its impact on health care delivery and health outcomes.
Marjorie A. Nelson (MAN) is Associate Professor Emerita of Preventive Medicine and Public Health in the DSM. She holds a Doctor of Medicine and a Master of Public Health. MAN was involved in virtually all aspects of the Osteopathic Medical Center and the COM as a clinician and as a faculty member.
