Scope and Content
The United Mine Workers of America (UMWA), Local 9992 records include correspondence, meeting minutes, committee reports and membership roll calls. The meeting minutes contain regular business meeting minutes, committee reports, mine runs, and minutes of special meetings called to discuss grievances, walk-outs, and other emergency situations. Almost all the correspondence is official circular from the officers of UMWA District 6 or officers of the International UMWA. The majority concerns UMWA elections and contains campaign letters, notice of election procedures, and results. There is some material concerning official response to the Black Lung Amendments, the Surface Mining Control, and Reclamation Act of 1975, and the Mine Safety and Health Act of 1976.

History of United Mine Workers of America, Local 9992
The Local 9992 of the United Mine Workers of America was charted in 1953. It was operated by the Ogleby-Norton Mining Company and based in Pohwatan Point, Ohio. In September 1972, company closed. The Local 9992 was disbanded in August 1977.

Acquisition Information
The Ohio University Archives received the collection donated by Walter Kowalcyk, President of Local 9992, in November 1978. It was acquired for the Ohio Labor History Project.
Existence and Location of Copies
Ohio University will entertain requests to photocopy reasonable amounts of material from the collection for the convenience of individual researchers.
