McKitrick Family Business and Personal Papers
Scope and Content
The McKitrick family business and personal papers includes financial records from the store, personal correspondence and other personal family papers. The store records include account books recording transactions. The correspondence is from William S. McKitrick (WSM), Ada McKitrick (AM), Sara McKitrick and James McKitrick. WSM's correspondence consists mainly of litigations, orders, contracts, insurance papers, receipts and some family news, along with the blood-line for the horses he raised. AM's correspondence is mostly social, from friends and relatives. Her correspondence is postmarked from: Tucson, Arizona; Roslyn, Washington; and The Western Female Seminary Auxiliary in Cincinnati, Ohio. The rest of the family papers are invitations to weddings, picnics, graduations and reunions.

Biography of the McKitrick family
William S. McKitrick (WSM) was the son of Dr. James McKitrick (JM) and Sara McKitrick. JM was born near Morristown, Belmont County, Ohio in 1815. Before studying medicine he was a blacksmith and in the mercantile business. JM married Sarah Hyde, the daughter of an early Athens settler, on March 29, 1845.
WSM lived in Chauncey, Ohio, and was married to Ada (Addie) McKitrick (AM). Her maiden name is unknown. In 1886, WSM was Treasurer of Dover Township. Ironically, he was unable to manage his own finances and was usually in debt or in the process of being sued for payment. He was a stock-raiser, general store keeper and a farmer. AM probably gave lessons on the guitar, mandolin and banjo. James McKitrick may have been the brother of WSM.
