Carl Arthur Engle Diary
Scope and Content
The Carl Arthur Engle (CAE) diary dates from 1918 and documents CAE's life during this year. THe diary documents CAE's military training, the death of his mother, his shipment to France for World War I, battles involving his military division, his reaction to the armistice, and his continued service in the military at the end of the year. The diary includes travel dates, important events, addresses, and codes to indicate weather and letters sent and received. Copies of material relating to Engle and his military unit are with the Collection.

Biography of Carl Arthur Engle
Carl Arthur Engle (CAE) was born on July 4, 1893 and lived in Logan, OH. He attended Ohio University from 1914 through 1917. He became a member of the 37th Infantry "Buckeye" Division and was with this division on the Western Front until the end of the war. CAE died around 1924.
