Department of Campus Life Records: Subseries A

The Student Life collection contains 7 boxes of information on Student Organizations and Greek Life. These boxes contain information between the years 1970 - 1998. Some of these organizations are still around on campus while others are not. There were many organizations and committees that were just around for a short period of time and disbanded when they were no longer needed. Examples of disbanded organizations would be political support for a candidate running for office like, Students For Bush, or even groups that were against political figures, like Students Against Reaganism, were some of the organizations that are in this collection.

The folders that contain information about the sororities and fraternities contain a lot of details that one person would not necessarily know about them. They have information about their living expenses for the chapter house as well as rulers for living in their houses. They also contain information about chapter goals they set, records of chapter GPAs, as well as information as to their run meetings, and information about philanthropies and what they do to teach their member about critical issues such as alcohol abuse.

Most of the folders contained Applications to Register a Student Organization, which registered their organization with the university. There was a great deal of Change of Officer(s) or Advisor forms in a lot of the folders as well. These forms and applications had to be removed from the collection due to their mass quantity and use of social security numbers to identify the student officers. Before Ohio University had PID numbers to identify students, social security numbers were used instead. They started using the PID relatively recently, when a lot of this type of information started being stored and processed online instead. There were 3 Applications to Register a Student Organizations and 2 Change of Officer(s) or Advisor forms that were kept and desensitized. These documents were a big part of student organizations and not having a small amount of them would make the collection seem incomplete.
