Scope and Content
The contents of this collection include the administrative papers of Robert Savage while he held the position of Assistant to the President at Ohio University. These papers range from budgeting information to student activities during the years of 1969-1972. A majority of the information in this collection is budgeting information for the university, as well as notes from different organizations, committees, and administrative personnel on campus. This collection is organized in alphabetical order. There is no particular chronological order to this collection unless a certain topic is also broken up into years.
After studying for his bachelors degree at Ohio State University in 1938 and receiving his PhD from Case Institute of Technology in 1942, Robert Savage worked as a research engineer and assistant supervisor of chemical engineering research at Battelle Memorial Institute in Columbus. In 1956 he was also named vice president of the North American Coal Corporation. Savage began work at Ohio University in 1964 as Professor of Chemical Engineering, later holding positions s Dean of Engineering, Vice President for Research, and Provost at Ohio University. This collection, however, focuses on Savage's position as Assistant to the President for planning, budgeting, and information systems.
This collection is a good description of the administrative planning that occurred at Ohio University during the years 1969-1972 and what was happening on campus. It is interesting to see which departments and organizations has priority when it came to university budgeting as well as the different events students were creating on campus at the time. The administrative aspect during this time is fascinating to look at, especially in regards to which programs they believed to be more important when it came to planning and budgeting for the next year.
