Janice Rienerth collection
Scope and Content
The Janice Rienerth (JR) collection consists of a scrapbook and objects collected while JR was a student at Ohio University (OU). It contains a scrapbook of photographs, postcards and newspaper clippings, Wing pins from Reserve Officers' Training Corps Angel Flight (ROTCAF) program, a Head Floor Chairman charm bracelet, an intramural award and a note from JR to Betty Hollow explaining the contents of the collection. The collection spans from 1961 to 1966.
The photographs in the scrapbook depict various campus buildings, the Ohio University band, football team, ROTCAF and Arnold Air programs, personal friends, dormitory rooms, Military Ball, Air Force commissioning ceremony, and graduation photographs. One 8x10 photograph of JR and two other ROTCAF members with OU President Vernon Alden and a trophy award for Arnold Air-First in Area D-1. Also included are postcard photographs of various buildings at OU.
Only a few newspaper clippings are included. Most of these are about the flooding of dormitories by the Hocking River. One clipping pictures the Ohio University basketball court ruined by flood waters.
There is a section dedicated to the ROTCAF program. The section includes ROTCAF membership cards, Arnold Air Society Banquet program, newspaper clipping, photographs of various Angel Flight ceremonies, Rush Booklet, one copy of "The Afterburner"
published in November 1965 by ROTCAF.
The pages of the scrapbook are somewhat brittle, especially around the edges, due to their age and the composition of the background paper used. Four items were removed during appraisal of the scrapbook. These consisted of JR's actual grade reports which are considered to be confidential.
