Marguerite Appel papers
Scope and Content
The Marguerite Appel (MA) papers span from 1926 to 1984 and contain personal and business records and ephemera created and collected by this Ohio University professor. The records include personal records such as correspondence, family photographs, postcards, Appel family newsletters, invitations and printed programs from events, business papers, business cards, date books, and travel guides. Highlights of the personal records include a ration book from World War II, a visitor's map to the 1934 World's Fair, MA's passport, and MA's international driving permit. The collection also includes records from her work at Ohio University (OU) including correspondence, memoranda, course handouts, OU staff newsletters from Nigeria, invitations and printed programs for events in Nigeria and Vietnam, Nigerian newspapers, Saigon newspapers, teaching manuals and workbooks from Nigeria and Vietnam, and United States Agency for Informational Development reports.

Biography of Marguerite Appel
Marguerite Appel (MA) was born in Bushton, Kansas in 1907. She received her A.B. from Friends University in Wichita, Kansas, and her M.A. from the University of Minnesota. Prior to working at Ohio University (OU), MA held positions at high schools in Kansas and Michigan, and also worked at Indiana University. MA accepted a faculty position at OU in Athens, Ohio, in 1945 as an instructor in secretarial studies in the College of Commerce. In 1960, MA joined the faculty of OU going to Nigeria for the United States Agency for Informational Development (USAID) Teacher Training Project. In 1963, she transferred from Nigeria to a similar project in South Vietnam. MA worked on this project until 1970 and then transferred back OU's main campus as an administrator in the Office of International Studies. MA retired in 1972.
