Scope and Contents

One ticket for Shakespears [sic] Jubilee at Stratford upon Avon on the 6th and 7th of September. Etching. The ticket admits one on the 6th to The Oratorio, The Dedication, The Ball, the Great Booth and the Fireworks. It cost one guinea. It is signed and sealed by Geo: Garrick, and includes an illustration of Shakespeare. The back of the ticket has the name I. or J. Ceyton or Geiyton.

The scrapbook contains newspaper clippings, autographed photographs and handwritten notes to Venner, broadsheet announcements of plays, a letter to Bateman from Skardon and a letter to Crowe from Henry James. Also included is a copy of the play “Leah” purportedly handwritten by Bateman. Unknown when Venner created...
