Since 1986 Mathematics and Statistics Awareness Month is held every year in April. It started as Mathematics Awareness Week with a proclamation by President Ronald Reagan.  In 1999, Mathematics Awareness Week became Mathematics Awareness Month.  Its goal is to increase public understanding of and appreciation for mathematics and is promoted by the Joint Policy Board for Mathematics.  In 2017, it became Mathematics and Statistics Awareness Month to celebrate diversity in these fields.  In support of Mathematics Awareness Month, Ohio University Zanesville has organized Math Morning in the Life of High School Students every year since April 2011 until the pandemic forced us to cancel the event in 2020.  We are pleased to announce that we are starting to organize the event again from this year and the tenth annual Math Morning in the Life of High School Students will be held at Ohio University Zanesville on Friday, April 26, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. As part of the activities, we are organizing a High School Algebra Quiz Contest and a High School Pre-Calculus Quiz Contest .

ach participating team should have two students.  Every school is allowed a maximum of one team for each contest.  All participants will be given a certificate of participation and the winning team in each category will receive a certificate and a prize of $200. The first runners-up team in each category will receive a prize of $100. The eligibility requirements are as follows:

• High School Algebra Quiz Contest : High school students who have taken (or are taking) Algebra II but have not completed Pre-Calculus are eligible to participate.

• High School Pre-Calculus Quiz Contest : High school students who are juniors or seniors and have taken (or are taking) Pre-Calculus but have not completed Calculus/AP Calculus are eligible to participate.

The focus in each of the two contests will be on foundations and no calculator will be required or allowed.

The deadline to submit a list of participants is Friday, March 15, 2024 . The names of participants along with the name of the contest in which they will be participating should be sent to Dr. Pramod Kanwar, Professor of Mathematics via email at kanwar@ohio.edu or by mail to:
