AMS Graduate Chapter Seminar, Jan 31

The AMS Graduate Chapter at Ohio University seminar next week will be held on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at Morton 219 from 4:10 to 5:05 PM. Speaker, Pradyut Karmakar is a Ph.D. student in the Mathematics Department at Ohio University will discuss Anomalies on von Neumann algebras.Abstract: Connes showed that anomalies of finite cyclic groups can be realized in II_1 factor. Later, Jones showed that anomalies can be realized in II_1 factor for finite groups and Sutherland showed that for discrete groups. It remained open for 70 years old conjecture. We have shown anomalies can be realized in type III factors for certain compact groups.
