The Athens City Commission on Disabilities is hosting the sixth annual Walk, Talk, and Roll! We would like to invite you all to go on this walk with us, as the City has many issues regarding our sidewalks Uptown.

This year's event will take place on Friday, April 19, starting at Baker Center across from Alden Library at 11:30 a.m., walking up and down Court Street and finishing at Howard Park (the Corner of College and Union Streets) at 12:15 p.m. where there will be refreshments and pizza provided.

This particular year, the Commission will be highlighting accessibility and inaccessibility in Uptown Athens, focusing on recent improvements and continued work that needs done on crosswalks, sidewalks, crossing signals, building entrances, and curb cuts. We are focusing on these areas because there will be a large streetscaping project in 2024 and 2025 where sidewalks and crosswalks will be completely redone. If buildings currently have a step or two at their entrance, the sidewalk can be modified to allow for a step-free entrance.

We will be stopping by businesses to inform them of how they can become more accessible during this large project.

At Howard Park, with our co-host the Ohio University's Center for Diversity and Inclusion, we will hear speeches about improving the City of Athens' accessibility and inclusion while celebrating strides the City has made over the years.
