Today’s Voters & Today’s Leaders

This non-partisan event provides a platform for students to engage directly with elected public officials and civic leaders to learn about the political process and discuss issues that matter to college students and the communities to which they belong. The Civic Engagement Forum is part of our office’s institution-wide effort to increase student voter registration, election turn-out, civil dialogue, and freedom of expression to ensure Ohio University students are engaged and informed life-long citizens.

The Forum will feature:

Young Elected Officials Panel Discussion: How Gen Z and Millennials are Leading Political Change  

Panelists will include:  

  • Christina Muryn, Mayor of Findlay, Ohio 

  • Amy Flowers, Former City Council Member of Athens, Ohio and OHIO alumna 

  • Dontavius L. Jarrells, Ohio House of Representatives for District 25 

  • Micah Covert, School Board President of Nelsonville-York Public School District  

  • Stephanie Zader, City Council Member of Mansfield, Ohio 

Defending Democracy and the Right to Vote: from Redistricting to the Fight to Protect the Right to Vote 

Panelists will include:  

  • Jen Miller: Executive Director, League of Women Voter’s of Ohio 

  • Greer Aeschbury, Ohio Campaign ManagerAll Voting is Local 

  • Catherin Turcer, Executive Director, Common Cause Ohio 

Civil Dialogue: Cultivating empathy and understanding, ideological diversity and solution-oriented politics

  • Facilitated by BridgeUSA representatives 

The panels will consist of introductions, facilitated discussions, and brief Q&A sessions with the audience.
