Some say that ther e is nothing to worry about because the Constitution will safeguard our dem ocracy. But history suggests otherwise. This lecture will explore why the C onstitution is not enough to save American democracy from the threat within .\n\n \n\nDr. Jeffries is the College of Arts and Sciences Alumni Associate Professor of History at The Ohio State University. A native of Brooklyn\, New York\, with degrees from Morehouse College and Duke University\, he tea ches courses on the Civil Rights and Black Power Movement. He is author of Bloody Lowndes: Civil Rights and Black Power in Alabama's Black Belt\, and has worked on several major public history projects\, including the renovat ion of the National Civil Rights Museum at the Lorraine Hotel in Memphis\, Tennessee\, where Dr. Martin Luther King\, Jr. was assassinated. Dr. Jeffri es also serves on the Board of Directors for the ACLU of Ohio.
