DESCRIPTION:The Contemporary History Institute hosts Dr. Yunus Dumbe discus
sing “Blind Love and Naivety: An Appraisal of the Influences of Social Netw
ork in the Biographies of Radicalized Students in University Campuses in Gh
ana” on Nov. 30 at 4:45 p.m. in Bentley Hall 132.\n\n \n\nDumbe is Senior L
ecturer in Religious Studies at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Tec
hnology in Kwasi\, Ghana\, as well as holding a Glidden Visiting Professor
at Ohio University during the Fall of 2023. His research focuses on religio
us movements and more specifically Islamic movements in sub-Saharan Africa\
, utilizing ethnographic methods and surveys to examine religious issues. H
is research interest includes Islam in Africa\, Islamic revival and convers
ion\, religion and politics\, history of religions in Africa\, the politics
of Islamic NGOs humanitarian activities\, Islamic radicalization and terro
rism.\n\n \n\nDumbe has published more than a dozen peer-reviewed academic
articles in publications such as the Annual Review of Islam in Africa\, the
Journal of the Contemporary Study of Islam\, and the Political Science Jo
urnal. He holds a Ph.D. in the Study of Religions from the University of Gh
ana\, Legon and has taught at the University of Cape Town in South Africa\,
the Islamic University College in Accra\, Ghana\, and Södertörn University
Stockholm\, Sweden.\n\n \n\nThis event is free and open to the public and
