Denim Day\, is a cam paign held each April to honor sexual assault awareness month. This campaig n began after an Italian Supreme Court ruling where a rape conviction was o verturned because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans she must have helped the person who raped her remove her jeans\, the reby implying consent. The following day\, the women in the Italian Parliam ent came to work wearing jeans in solidarity with the victim. Peace Over Vi olence developed the Denim Day campaign in response to this case and the ac tivism surrounding it. Since then\, what started as a local campaign to bri ng awareness to victim blaming and destructive myths that surround sexual v iolence has grown into a movement. As the longest running sexual violence p revention and education campaign in history\, Denim Day asks community memb ers\, elected officials\, businesses and students to make a social statemen t with their fashion statement by wearing jeans on this day as a visible me ans of protest against the misconceptions that surround sexual violence. \n \n \n\nThe Survivor Advocacy Program & Office of Sorority & Fraternity Life are planning #OHIODenimDay2021 on April 28\, 2021. We invite our campus co mmunity to participate by wearing jeans/denim and posting photos on social media and tagging @OHIO_SAP and @OhioGreekLife and use the hashtag @OhioDen imDay2021.
