The needs for global educatio n at P12 schools are clearly addressed by the Ohio Department of Education as well-developed global competencies could prepare Ohio citizens to live\, work and participate in the global economy. To develop students’ global c ompetencies\, the Ohio Department of Education proposes to connect the clas sroom to the work and make students and teaching go global. The ultimate g oal is to make students understand the world by meeting and interacting wit h people from other countries. \n\nAligning with the Ohio Department of E ducation’s proposed global education\, we are delighted to hold a global ed ucation program (Global Education Fairs) at Athens P-12 schools\, with a co llaboration with the AAPI-LEAD organization at Ohio University\, The Center for International Studies\, and the Athens City School District in the loc al community. \n\nEvent Goals \n\nPromote P-12 students’ multicultural awar eness. Increase P-12 students’ knowledge of diverse cultural groups and cou ntries. Develop P-12 students’ globalization citizenship. Foster a diverse\ , inclusive\, and culturally responsive environment at P-12 schools. Provid e opportunities for Ohio University international students and scholars to engage with local P-12 schools and increase their sense of belonging to the local community. Event Activities: \n\nInternational students at Ohio Un iversity will present their cultures and engage P-12 students in hands-on a ctivities to learn about different countries. Each fair will last about 2 hours. \n\nStudents will be given a blank passport at the beginning of the fair. They will tour different “countries” (the exhibition tables from d ifferent cultural groups) and learn about their cultures. They need to com plete some cultural learning activities or pass a quiz to get a visa (stamp ) from that country. When they collect all stamps\, they can be granted a certificate of multicultural education.
