The Linguistics Department presents Leah Allan discussing "Maji?: The Language Patterns of Japanese Youth"
Leah Allan will briefly introduce the colorful world of young Japanese peoples’ language usage. This presentation will explore some of the morphology, word formation, and language change patterns initiated and spread by Japanese youth communities. Learning from her Japanese students and friends, she will discuss phenomena such as foreign language borrowings, “Frankenstein” morphology, and Japanese internet slang.
Leah Allan is Assistant Language Teacher (ALT) at Interac North Japan, Iwate and an alumna of the BA Linguistics Program '21.
