Abstract : The shift toward online learning has become prevalent during the turbulent period of the COVID-19 pandemic. Many people have been able to continue their education from the safety and comfort of their own homes. However, online learning environments bring stressors that can negatively impact learners’ academic performance. Our presentation is about our research that investigates effective instructional strategies to reduce learner stress in an online learning environment. Observational experience as online instructors and the existing literature show that students have stress due to a lack of meaningful interaction, feelings of isolation, difficulties staying focused, and assignments. Our interview data confirms the effectiveness of some instructional strategies that helped reduce learner stress. Our research findings are beneficial to all online learners and instructors, and they will enhance the quality of online education.
