Add to calendarThe Linguistics Colloquium Series presents Dr. Gabriela Cast a ñeda-Gleason and Jordan Wagner discussing “Teaching Humor in the ESL Classroom” on Friday Oct. 23 from 12:55 to 1:50 p.m.
Castaneda is Assistant Professor of Instruction in Linguistics and Wagner is a PhD student in Instructional Communication at Ohio University.
Abstract: As part of the study of Language and Social Interaction (LSI) methods, the authors will present preliminary research on teacher humor usage in the ESL classroom following a combination of methods: ethnography of communication (EoC) (Hymes, 1976) and cultural communication (CC) (Carbaugh, Berry, & Nurmikari-Berry, 2006). These explorations will display how instructors attempt of humor are present in an ESL environment.
