The Linguistics Colloquium series presents Alice Whitaker discussing "You will love it here, Insha'allah": Our International Teaching Adventure in Saudi Arabia on Oct. 6 from 12:55 - 1:50 p.m. via Microsoft TEAMS.

Whitaker is a former Bobcat and licensed K-12 educator with B.S. Social Work and M.A. Education degrees from Ohio State University. 

Abstract: After 15 years of teaching English learners at public schools in Ohio, Florida, and Arkansas, Whitaker and her husband, a special education teacher, were offered teaching jobs at a prestigious American curriculum International school in Saudi Arabia. Due to negative media portrayal of the Middle East, friends and family urged them to stay in the United States. However, they knew if they turned down this rare opportunity they would look back with regret and always wonder what adventures they missed. So the Whitakers and their 9- year-old daughter (now a Bobcat) headed to the desert!
