Congress contin ues to codify the government’s relationship with academic and industrial re searchers. Since the 80’s\, Congress has mandated that roughly 3 percent of research funding must go to research led by small businesses. The governme nt gets to direct the course of innovative research towards addressing some of its most challenging problems at\, in general\, much lower costs than l arge business led research. In a win/win\, small businesses receive non-dil utive funding to pursue their best aligned ideas. This talk will contain a broad introduction for students and faculty to navigate this niche research industry or\, for some\, just an update on the latest goings on. This intr oduction will include a real-life example of what it is like in the industr y for an Ohio University graduate (me). This talk will have something for y ou whether you want to know more about the job landscape following graduati on\, are interested in commercializing your own ideas\, are looking into re search funding opportunities\, or are searching for partners to fill out yo ur own research team.
