Ohio University Eastern Campus Early Childhood/Elementary and Middle Childhood education programs will host a virtual open house at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 25, 2021, for prospective students to learn about programs and the different educational pathways offered on our regional campus. Virtual visitors will also get a tour of the education room that is used for both programs, a tour of the Early Childhood and Elementary Education lab and a have a chance to meet professors and current students.

The virtual event will be for high school juniors, seniors, transfer students, or those ready for a career in education. Everyone who attends is eligible to receive an application fee waiver to apply to Ohio University Eastern. Prospective students who attend the entire virtual event will also be entered for a chance to win one of four $1,000 OHIO Eastern Scholarships (applicable for fall semester 2021 only) and one of four $50 Amazon gift cards from a drawing at the end of the event.

“The Eastern campus Early Childhood/Elementary Education and Middle Childhood Education programs offer students the opportunity to earn their bachelor’s degrees and state licensure and immediately emerge into the career field where their services are in high demand,” said Dr. Jacqueline Yahn, Eastern Campus Program Coordinator, Middle Childhood Education. “The Middle Childhood and Early Childhood/Elementary Education programs both feature a partnership model that connects our students with robust practical experience and a network of potential employers throughout their time at the Eastern campus. Likewise, our program area faculty provide a depth of knowledge in the classroom that equips our candidates with the confidence to transition to their classrooms.”

OHIO Eastern offers two bachelor’s degrees in education. The Middle Childhood Education program prepares students to teach in grades 4 through 9. Upon successful completion of the program and the OAE exams, students are eligible for a four-year resident educator license in the state of Ohio. Students are also eligible to apply for licensure in other states. Students will earn a Bachelor of Science in Education.

The Eastern Campus also offers a complete Early Childhood and Elementary Education degree program leading to an Ohio teaching license for Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 5 and a Bachelor of Science in Education. In addition to being licensed to teach in public and private preschools, Head Start programs, nursery schools, and centers, students are also licensed to teach in private and public-school kindergartens and primary grades.
