DESCRIPTION:We are excited to launch the Pan African Movie Series\, a platf
orm for conversation and dialogue examining the global Black Cinema experie
nce using different lenses and audiences. This will be an interactive serie
s consisting of virtual panels with OHIO alumni\, students\, faculty and ot
her relevant authorities on the Black movie experiences. To kick off the se
ries\, join us for a discussion of the movie “Coming to America.”\n\n \n\nP
anelists:\n\n \n\nDr. K. Yawa Agbemabiese\nDr. K. Yawa Agbemabiese is Assis
tant Professor\, Exceptional Education and Global Social Sciences\, Bard Hi
gh School Early College\, DC. She serves as the Program Chair\, Global Soci
al Sciences\, Bard Early College Networks\, and is also Faculty Associate\,
Institute of Writing and Thinking\, Bard College. She is the founder of th
e Charles A. and Norma J. Grooms Education Foundation\, and the Founder of
Dunenyo Education Center\, Abor\, Volta Region of Ghana\, West Africa.\n\n
\n\nVanessa Bell Calloway\nVanessa has earned eight NAACP Image Award nomin
ations. She won the NAACP Theater Award for Best Actress for her role as Zo
ra Neale Hurston in her one-woman critically-acclaimed play “Letters From Z
ora”. Vanessa was invited to become a 2018 member of the Academy of Motion
Pictures Arts and Sciences for her contribution to the entertainment indust
ry. She reprised her role as Princess Imani Izzi in the soon to be released
“Coming To America 2." Calloway is currently starring in Bounce TV’s one-h
our hit-drama “Saint & Sinners\,” as the matriarch Lady Ella now in its fif
th season. She directed a few of the episodes as well and just completed di
recting a movie short for BET HER health initiative\, “A Long Look In The M
irror\,” which will be seen later this year.\n\n \n\nYaphet Jackman\nYaphet
Jackman is a Brooklyn born\, Guyanese bred multifaceted creative with a pa
ssion to learn\, laugh & live. Coupled with 20 years of experience in the m
edia and television industry across the Caribbean and the US\, he's worked
his way up from a part-time camera operator to a budding Cinematographer/Di
rector currently immersing himself in the U.S. film industry.\n\n \n\nJoe '
Jody' Williams\nJody's expertise behind the camera began as a film loader f
resh out of film school on the movie Telling Lies in America. Throughout th
e years he moved up the ranks from camera assistant to operator to director
of photography on one of FOX’s all-time top rated shows\, Empire. His late
st work Coming 2 America\, for Paramount Pictures\, can be seen on Amazon t
his Christmas.\n\n \n\n \n\nModerator: \n\n \n\nDr. Akil Houston\nAkil Hous
ton\, PhD.\, is an associate professor of Cultural and Media Studies in the
Department of African American Studies at Ohio University. He teaches cour
ses on African American Education\, African American Media\, Afrofutrusim\,
Pedagogy of Malcolm X\, and the popular Hip Hop history\, culture\, and po
litics class. Dr. Houston’s research areas include African American Studie
s\, Educational Philosophy\, Africana Womanism and Black Feminism(s)\, Cine
ma Studies\, Cultural Studies\, and Hip Hop Culture.\n\n \n\n \n\nYou will
