DESCRIPTION:The Physics & Astronomy Colloquium Series presents Anna S. Eric
kson of Georgia Institute of Technology\, discussing "Fueling Innovation: A
dvancing Nuclear Nonproliferation Solutions with EFI" on September 6.\n\n \
n\nAbstract: The promise of nuclear energy as a clean\, reliable power sour
ce is tempered by the persistent threat of proliferation. To realize the fu
ll potential of nuclear power while safeguarding against its misuse require
s innovative solutions. The Consortium for Enabling Technologies and Innova
tion (ETI) is at the forefront of developing these solutions by uniting aca
demia\, industry\, and national laboratories while creating a dynamic ecosy
stem for research and development focused on nuclear nonproliferation.\n\n
\n\nIn this seminar\, I will primarily discuss the Consortium for Enabling
Technologies and Innovation (ETI)\, representing a team of fourteen institu
tions of higher education and twelve national laboratories\, committed to p
romoting the spirit of collaborative intelligence. The unique mission of th
e ETI Consortium is to direct the research and innovation to enable the tec
hnologies that support the NNSA’s mission\, to train the next-generation of
human capital\, and to bridge the gap between the university basic researc
h and national laboratories mission-specific applications. The differentiat
ing approach that we adopt to support the mission is to create a truly coll
aborative environment: the umbrella of data science to support the critical
areas of enabling research of novel detectors and advanced manufacturing i
n nuclear nonproliferation.\n\n \n\nI will conclude the seminar with a brie
f overview of the research at the GT’s Laboratory for Advanced Nuclear Nonp
roliferation and Safety\, including recent developments in antineutrino mon
itoring of nuclear reactors and active interrogation of cargo containers in
support of homeland security.
