Her specialty is the visual and material culture of early modern (1400-1700) Italy\, and\, in p articular\, material culture in the domestic sphere and the visual construc tion of gender.\n\n \n\nde Vries will discuss her book\, Caterina Sforza an d the Art of Appearances: Gender\, Art\, and Culture in Early Modern Italy (Ashgate\, 2010)\, which explores a ruling noblewoman's patronage and colle cting practices and the ways she harnessed culture to stretch accepted gend er roles. \n\n \n\nThis is a virtual event.
