Science Cafe | The Brain, Body, and Biomechanics of Injury Recovery, March 17

Ohio University's  Science Café series features Dustin Grooms Steven Pfeiffer and Janet Simon discussing “The Brain, Body, and Biomechanics of Injury Recovery” on March 17 at 5 p.m.

This café will give an immersive experience from the point of view of an orthopedic patient recovering from injury. Grooms, Pfeiffer and Simon—faculty members in the School of Applied Health Sciences and Wellness —will explore how common sports-related orthopedic injuries occur and what a typical patient will experience over the course of their recovery.

Join Grooms, Pfeiffer and Simon, as take the audience into their laboratories to explore the types of advanced and personalized analyses they employ in their research labs–giving an overview of how human movement is quantified, cartilage responds after exercise and damage, and the brain controls movement after injury. The researchers will also discuss how they use neuroplasticity–the brain’s ability to adapt, master new skills and recover from a traumatic injury–to augment patient recovery.

The series is supported by the Ohio University Research Division and Ohio University Chapter of Sigma Xi. For more information visit the  Science Cafe website .
