o University's Science Cafe series presents Dr. Nathan Weyand discussing "M
icrobial Colonies & Protective Blood" at 5 p.m. on Wednesday\, Nov. 18.\n\n
Weyand loves working with microbial life and believes that “small life” has
a lot to teach us. One particular topic that fascinates him is how some i
nfectious bacteria manage to persist in our bodies without causing symptoms
.\n\nWeyand’s research focuses on Neisseria gonorrhoeae\, a Gram-negative b
acterium that causes the sexually transmitted disease gonorrhea. During his
café\, he will discuss basic concepts of bacteriology and cellular microbi
ology\, why microbiologists like counting colonies\, and how our defensive
immune system protects the human body.\n\nWatch on YouTube.Watch on Faceboo
