B. L ewis\, Dr. Daniel Moak (OU\, African American Studies)\, Dr. Robin Muhammad (OU\, African American Studies)\, and Dr. Kirstine Taylor (OU\, Political Science). We will discuss the legacy of John Lewis and the Civil Rights mov ement\, the debates and questions within the movement\, and the continuing relevance of these questions today.\n\nThe documentary offers an intimate a ccount of legendary U.S. Rep. John Lewis’s life\, legacy\, and more than 60 years of extraordinary activism – from the bold teenager on the front line s of the Civil Rights movement to the legislative powerhouse. A discussions follows on the Lewis's legacy and the Civil Rights movement\, the debates and questions within the movement\, and the continuing relevance of these q uestions today.\n\nFavors is Associate Professor of History at Clayton Stat e University. He is author of the award winning book Shelter in a Time of S torm: How Black Colleges Fostered Generations of Leadership and Activism (U niversity of North Carolina Press\, 2019).\n\nLewis is illustrator and fine artist. He has illustrated more than 70 books for children\, including the 2016 Golden Kite Honor Award\, Jabari Asim’s Preaching to the Chicken’s\, which gives a fascinating glimpse into the boyhood of Civil Rights leader J ohn Lewis.\n\n\n\nDr. Daniel Moak\n\nMoak is Assistant Professor of African American Studies. He focuses on race and politics\, with an emphasis on re cognizing voices atypical to the discourse surrounding race.\n\n\n\nDr. Rob in D. Muhammad\n\nMuhammad is Associate Professor of African American Studi es. Muhammad is a labor historian who studies workers\, their communities a nd their political institutions. Her current research focuses on the histor y of industrial workers of African descent. Her book manuscript\, Arsenal o f Liberation\, is a study of the African American experience in 20th-centur y California.\n\n\n\nDr. Kirstine Taylor\n\nTaylor is Assistant Professor o f Political Science and Law\, Justice & Culture. Taylor's research focuses on how racial inequality is sustained and reproduced in 20th- and 21st-cent ury American politics\, especially as it relates to the American carceral s ystem: law & order politics\, policing\, segregation\, and state violence. Her in-progress book\, Law & Order Politics from the Postwar South to Post- Racial America\, unearths the surprising relationship between postwar liber alism and the emergence of racialized law-and-order discourses in the midce ntury American South.
