REC 3240: Outdoor Leadership Expedition is a special study away experience available to any OHIO student who wishes to develop their leadership skills in an outdoor setting. The 28-day course is designed to teach students the knowledge, skills, and dispositions required for effective outdoor leadership.

The course consists of three phases:

  • Backpacking in the Pisgah National Forest in North Carolina
  • Coastal kayaking along Cape Lookout National Seashore in North Carolina
  • Bikepacking in the Alleghany Highlands

Topics include basic wilderness living skills, specialized wilderness travel techniques, expedition behavior and group dynamics, environmental ethics, safety and risk management, and much more. Students who successfully complete the course will be awarded a Leave No Trace Trainer Certificate.

The 9-credit hour course will take place from May 11-June 7 and interested students need to apply by March 15 . Learn more at one the upcoming information sessions that will be held at 5:00 p.m. in Patton Hall 209 on Feb. 1, 15, and 29 (you need attend only one session).
