BEGIN:VCALENDAR VERSION:2.0 CALSCALE:GREGORIAN PRODID:iCalendar-Ruby BEGIN:VEVENT CATEGORIES:Workshops & Classes DESCRIPTION:The event will begin with a short presentation on the full hist ory of the outdoor recreation movement in America and how discriminatory po licies and segregation helped create and perpetuate what is known as the “A dventure Gap”\; a term coined by African American outdoor journalist James Mills\, as a way to highlight the underrepresentation of BIPOC (black\, ind igenous\, people of color) groups in outdoor recreational spaces. The parti cipants will experience the outdoors as they hear stories of historical fig ures that have overcome the discriminatory barriers that denied access to o utdoor recreation.
