Ohio University offers curricula in more than 250 undergraduate majors leading to bachelor’s or associate’s degrees through nine colleges: Arts and Sciences, Business, Communication, Education, Engineering and Technology, Fine Arts, Health Sciences and Professions, Honors Tutorial, and University. Programs are also offered through OHIO Online/eCampus, the Graduate College, the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, the Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs, and Regional Higher Education. The Graduate College coordinates graduate study at Ohio University.

Ohio University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) (formerly the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Institutions of Higher Education). While some of the University’s academic programs are accredited by over 30 of their own specialized accreditors, Ohio University as a whole is accredited by HLC; all of the University’s programs and units are covered by this institutional-wide accreditation.

While some might see accreditation as a bureaucratic process, as a peer-led process, accreditation is how institutions hold themselves and others accountable for our institutional effectiveness. Accredited by HLC since 1913, OHIO participates in the Open Pathway which is one of two options institutions have for maintaining their accreditation. The Open Pathway follows a 10 year cycle and requires that institutions undertake a Quality Initiative to pursue an institutional improvement project consistent with a culture of quality improvement.

OHIO transitioned from the AQIP Pathway (now phased out) to the Open Pathway in 2019 and our next HLC Comprehensive Evaluation for our reaffirmation of accreditation is scheduled for 2024.

Graduate College

Oversees all graduate education at Ohio University, including masters and doctoral degrees, graduate certificates, and non-degree programs for study beyond the bachelor’s degree. The Graduate College also awards interdisciplinary graduate degrees in Individualized Study (IIP) and Translational Biomedical Science.

Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine

Offers a four–year medical education program leading to the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree (see separate catalog).

Honors Tutorial College

A renowned degree–granting college with more than 30 programs of study. Honors Tutorial College students undergo a rigorous and exhilarating academic experience that combines a set of tutorials, upper–division classes, and selected graduate courses. In order to allow students to pursue this challenging form of undergraduate education, Honors Tutorial College students are exempt from most General Education requirements. A high percentage of the students in this college enter graduate or professional school. You may request consideration for admission to the Honors Tutorial College and must indicate a program of study at the time of application.

OHIO Online/eCampus

eCampus offers innovative alternative educational opportunities and experiences for traditional and nontraditional students, including those who may not be able to come to an Ohio University campus.

Opportunities abound through eCampus to earn college credit, a degree, continuing education units (CEUs), or study something of interest. eCampus works to deliver educational opportunities that integrate life, work, and learning to students of all ages in various locations.

Patton College of Education

Curricula leading to the Associate in Applied Science; Bachelor of Science in Human and Consumer Sciences; Bachelor of Science in Education degree; Bachelor of Science in Physical Education; and Bachelor of Science in Recreation Studies. Regional Higher Education

Regional campuses provide access to Ohio University degree programs for commuting students throughout southeastern Ohio. Students may attend classes at regional campuses in Chillicothe, Ironton, Lancaster, St. Clairsville, and Zanesville, or access classes through distance technologies. Students enrolled in business studies, criminal justice, communication studies, early childhood education, middle childhood education, health services administration, history, nursing, organizational studies, psychology, recreation and sport services, sociology-criminology, sociology pre-law, social work, and specialized studies can complete the entire baccalaureate degree program through a regional campus. The Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, and Associate of Individual Study degrees are available on all campuses, and an array of technical programs leading to either the Associate of Applied Business, the Associate of Applied Science, or the Associate of Technical Study are available on most campuses. Standalone certificates in automation technician and mechatronics technician are avaialble through the Lancaster campus. Students interested in pursuing other baccalaureate degrees not offered at the regional campuses can complete up to the first two years of many of the baccalaureate majors available at Ohio University, before relocating to the Athens campus to complete their degrees.
