OCOM 744 - Clinical Skills 4
This course expands on students’ mastery of the following clinical skills:
- patient interviewing and history taking,
- physical examination, including osteopathic structural assessment and palpatory diagnosis, and
- clinical problem solving as an active member of a learning team addressing challenges commonly encountered in osteopathic medical practice.
The course provides students with opportunities to incorporate osteopathic manipulative techniques as well as apply medical knowledge and skills to patient care in a supervised clinical setting. Course activities are coordinated with content material addressed in the concurrent Medical Knowledge courses, and include clinical labs, manipulative medicine labs, simulated and real patient encounters in a supervised setting, and cased-based learning groups. Instructor expectations of students are specified by an extensive list of explicit learning objectives which constitute the basis for student assessment (exams).
