OCOM 709 - Psychiatry
The psychiatric course acquaints students with major psychiatric disorders, including their neurochemical basis, diagnosis and treatment. Case studies and real patient interviews are used to aid student learning of the distinguishing features of these disorders as set forth in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders . The course is divided into mood, anxiety and psychotic/personality disorders modules. Emphasis is placed on understanding these disorders at the neurochemical level, and students are expected to do significant outside reading.
