JOUR 1050 - Introduction to Mass Communication
All forms of mass communication, including newspapers, magazines, broadcast, online, book publishing, public relations, advertising, and photojournalism. Analysis of communication process and media career opportunities.
Requisites: WARNING: no credit if JOUR 1010 or MDIA 1091

Learning Outcomes:
- Analyze and be able to discuss the power and influence that the media have in the public sphere.
- Be aware of the relationship between mass media and political systems.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the significance and impact of mass communications in a global society.
- Develop an appreciation for legal and ethical issues associated with mass media in a large, diverse democracy.
- Develop an appreciation for some of the theories and research that explain our relationship with the mass media and mediated communication.
- Learn how different mass media platforms disseminate topical and current affairs events to targeted markets.
