DANC 3040 - Dance Technique III Jazz


A continuation of materials learned in Dance 2040. Students are expected to be intermediate level jazz dancers with a good command of the jazz dance vocabulary, strength, stamina, coordination, and flexibility. Emphasis will be placed on increased mastery of jazz dance vocabulary and increased understanding and demonstration of the aesthetics and performance elements of Jazz dance in all course materials. For serious, non-major jazz dancers.

Requisites: DANC 2040
Credit Hours: 1.5
Repeat/Retake Information: May be repeated for a maximum of 3.0 hours.
Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 studio
Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I
Learning Outcomes:
  • Student will demonstrate advanced understanding of musicality (rhythms, meters, and phrasing) within movement combinations given.
  • Student will physically demonstrate understanding of intermediate level technical skills, and artistic qualities and execute them in various spatial planes and pathways with clarity and artistic ownership.
  • Student will recognize, utilize and apply vocabulary terms given in class.
  • Student will understand one’s body orientation in space in given movement combinations.
