ECON 4850 - Economic Methodology

• Students will be able to take on intellectual risk by engaging in the process of independent research in the field of economics.

• Students will be able to evaluate important assumptions that underlie estimation, modeling, and data analysis.
• Students will be able to formulate their own hypotheses and test these hypotheses using econometric methods utilized by researchers publishing in the field of economics.
• Students will be able to logically state conclusions based on their analysis of real-world data.
• Students will be able to discuss the limitations of their study and recognize the complexities of their data analysis.
• Students will be able to connect academic knowledge about economic issues and estimation methodologies with their experience of conducting independent research.
• Students will be able to make connections across various social science disciplines and quantitative methodologies and discuss empirical findings from the perspective of an economist.
• Students will be able to adapt and apply critical thought and research skills gained in the classroom to engage in independent research.
• Students will be able to synthesize their own research and communicate their research findings using written papers.
