EDSP 3700 - Cultivating a Responsive Classroom Ecology


The content and activities of this course focus on the ethical development of class-wide management systems for the purposes of creating a positive classroom climate, providing proactive supports to reduce challenging behaviors, and teaching conflict resolution skills. Theories of behavior and interventions, universal and targeted supports, and collaboration with colleagues and families are also addressed through discussion and activities.

Requisites: C or better in (EDTE 2000 and 2010 and 2020) or concurrent
Credit Hours: 3
Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts.
Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 lecture

Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will be able to compare and contrast various classroom management theories and research.
  • Students will be able to identify and apply universal preventative strategies.
  • Students will be able to identify and interpret individual behaviors through various cultural lenses.
  • Students will be able to design and implement intervention strategies for individuals at-risk for a disability.
  • Students will be able to apply knowledge of and skills to promote problem solving and conflict resolution, barriers to access and acceptance, and adaptation to learning environments.
  • Students will be able to develop universal and targeted supports in collaboration with colleagues, families, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Students will be able to identify and utilize professional and ethical practices when developing universal and targeted supports.
