EDSP 3760 - Methods of Teaching Students with High Incidence Disabilities


This course focuses on the selection of current methods used in teaching students with high incidence disabilities. Students discuss instructional considerations to integrate effective teaching methods and eliminate potential learning barriers. This course presents specific techniques and practice activities on effective methods of instruction for learners with high incidence disabilities, focusing on Universal Design for Learning, backwards planning, scaffolding, and differentiation techniques. Students apply the various instructional and assistive technologies used in the field of special education to their lesson planning and classroom instruction.

Requisites: C or better in EDSP 2730 and 3700
Credit Hours: 3
Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts.

  • Students will be able to design instructional environments and instruction that accommodate all types of learners, promote acceptance, celebrate diversity, and facilitate self-determination.
  • Students will be able to use learners’ Individualized Educational Programs to inform instructional decisions.
  • Students will be able to differentiate instruction by applying principals of Universal Design for Learning to the general education curricula.
  • Students will be able to implement and use applications of various technologies to plan instruction for learners with high incidence disabilities.
