EDTE 3730 - Instructional Adaptations for Inclusive Secondary Classrooms


This course combines with clinical/field experience to develop skills needed by educators at the adolescent to young adult levels in order to work with learners with disabilities in inclusive classrooms. Students learn about curriculum modifications, selection and appropriate uses of reading materials, and instructional and reading adaptations. Course content and activities also focus on classroom management adaptations, effective collaboration strategies, accessing related and support services, and skills required for instructing and managing an inclusive classroom.

Requisites: Advanced Standing, 2.75 GPA
Credit Hours: 3
Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Students will be able to apply knowledge of issues, assurances, and due process rights related to assessment, eligibility, and placement within a continuum of services.
  • Students will be able to identify and analyze the educational and social implications of characteristics of various disabilities.
  • Students will be able to evaluate and modify instructional practices in response to ongoing assessment data.
  • Students will be able to implement research-supported methods for academic and nonacademic instruction of individuals with disabilities.
