GEOL 4830 - Field Hydrology


Introduction to collection, analysis, and interpretation of hydrological field data.

Learning Outcomes:
  • Aquifer test -Monitoring well installation -Slug testing -Soil, water and vapor sampling -Surveying -Measuring gradients -Pump and slug tests -AquiferTest or other aquifer testing programs.
  • Contaminant treatment systems.
  • Flow and chemistry of natural waters - Measurements of precipitation, evapotranspiration, infiltration, runoff, streamflow - Oxygen sag in rivers below wastewater plants o Lake chemistry o Groundwater chemistry o PHREEQCI or other geochemistry pro.
  • Geographic Information Systems (GIS) -Introduction to ArcView.
  • Geophysics - Seismic data analysis - Program FIRSTPIX© - Analysis of resistivity and conductivity data - Program RESIX©.
  • Tropical wetland assessment (flow, GPS, heads, chemical loads).
  • Unsaturated zone hydrology - Soil gas sampling and analyses -Soil venting (tests of unsaturated zone) -Data analysis with HYPERVENTILATE or other programs -Modeling with CESOIL or other programs.
