ETM 4320 - Lean Enterprise Methods


In today’s world, organizations compete in a global market place. In order to compete successfully, organizations must eliminate all forms of waste from their process, through continuous improvement processes. Lean enterprise principles provide methods to achieve these goals. Lean operational approaches provide an organization with a set of methods and tools to assist in the identification and then continuous eliminations of waste and enterprise improvements.

Requisites: ETM 1030 and MGT 2000 and (Jr or Sr)
Credit Hours: 3
Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts.
Lecture/Lab Hours: 2.0 lecture, 2.0 laboratory
Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I
Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will be able to explain the fundamentals of Lean Philosophy including history, underlying principles and key pillars of a lean enterprise.
  • Students will be able to utilize key lean tools such as an A3 and value stream map to eliminate waste and add value to an organizational system.
  • Students will be able to develop current state value stream, future state value stream maps of a process.
  • Students will be able to develop standardized work combination chart, and total productive maintenance charts.
  • Students will be able to collect data such as cycle times, process times, total lead times, customer demand and analyze the data to calculate takt times, overall equipment effectiveness, operators required for a given process, machine capacity required.
  • Students will be able to perform SIX S and establish visual control and eliminate waste in an enterprise setting.
  • Students will be able to work successfully in a team environment for problem solving.
  • Students will be able to develop a professional report and make a professional presentation.
