LPA 4590 - Measuring Outcomes in Public and Nonprofit Organizations


This course focuses on the skills needed to develop and implement an outcome system within a public or nonprofit organization. Methods for determining information needs for monitoring of service delivery and program outcomes will be explored. Evaluation issues will be considered in the context of ethical standards, program effectiveness and efficiency.

Credit Hours: 3
Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts.
Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 lecture

Learning Outcomes:
  • Ability to identify strategies for collecting, storing, and retrieving information needed to substantiate program outcomes.
  • Able to design a logic model and an outcome system for internal evaluation.
  • Clear understanding of the concepts of output, outcomes, and impacts.
  • Understanding of the various ways that outcome and program evluation findings can be used to promote continuous improvement, program sustainability, and improved effectiveness.
