LPA 4920 - Applied Learning in Leadership and Public Affairs


Provides students with credit for applied practical experiences in various projects in the public sector. Students participate in a combination of seminars, lectures and project-based learning under the guidance and mentoring of Voinovich School Faculty and staff.

Learning Outcomes:
  • At the end of this course students will be able to articulate in a written reflection the significance of key experiences in the field and how they reflect the manifestation of academic theory in practice.
  • At the end of this course students will be able to complete an analysis of and think critically about an organization’s authorizing environment, operational capacity, comparable providers and the public value it creates.
  • At the end of this course students will be able to develop a scope of work for a project to meet a goal that moves a public organization’s mission forward.
  • At the end of this course students will be able to make recommendations, develop action steps, and implement a meaningful project taking into account an organizations assets, capacity, and context within a regional context.
  • At the end of this course students will be able to present orally to the leadership of a public sector organization the content of, and rationale for a plan that advances and serves an organizations mission.
