PETE 3090 - Tests and Measurements


This course aims to prepare teacher candidates to be able to describe basic statistical procedures and effectively assess student achievement and performance in the psychomotor, cognitive and affective domains in physical education. This course offers current methods and activities for assessment in physical education.

Requisites: C or better in (BIOS 1030 and PETE 2100)
Credit Hours: 3
Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts.
Lecture/Lab Hours: 2.0 lecture, 2.0 laboratory
Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I
Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will be able to explain the importance of the national standards related to performance-based assessments in physical education.
  • Students will be able to identify valid and reliable tests used to measure the psychomotor, cognitive, and affective domains of learning in physical education.
  • Students will be able to describe basic statistical procedures used in physical education that will facilitate appropriate measurement and evaluation practices.
  • Students will be able to implement a variety of physical activity assessment tools to assess student learning (e.g., FitnessGram, pedometer, heart rate monitor, & 3-Day PA Log).
  • Students will be able to plan, administer, analyze and interpret results from a range of skill development tests in physical education.
  • Students will be able to assess student achievement and performance of psychomotor, cognitive and affective domains in physical education.
