PT 2591 - Introductions to Physical Therapy Clinical Experience


Designed to provide direct observation and discussion of physical therapy evaluation and interventions in local clinics for undergraduate students seriously considering physical therapy as a career.

Requisites: Permission required
Credit Hours: 2
Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts.
Lecture/Lab Hours: 1.0 lecture, 3.0 laboratory
Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I
Learning Outcomes:
  • The student will develop a beginning level of understanding of certain diagnoses commonly seen in physical therapy clinics.
  • The student will discuss, at a beginning level, professional responsibilities related to the practice of physical therapy (PT).
  • The student will identify characteristics of evaluation and treatment in various practice settings.
  • The student will identify members of the health care team and their contribution to the patient’s well being. This includes an understanding of the physical therapist’s responsibilities and their relationship to other health care professionals.
  • The student will perform, on a basic level, various skills taught in the laboratory component of the course.
